Some people say that drug companies have the responsibility to spend money on researching medicine to help the poorer countries, while others think that the main responsibility of drug companies is making money.

Discuss these two views and give your own opinion.

Although pharmaceutical sales make trillions of dollars every year, it is unfair to say that pharmaceutical companies rake in money and do nothing else. As a matter of fact, many of the companies fare with good ethics and global citizenship, and are rather generous in developing medications to help poor countries. That does not conflict with their business nature. 

When a drug company loses its profitability, it will soon go out of business, losing its capability and desire to do any pharmaceutical research. After all, those companies are business organizations, which are profit-driven, rather than academic or scientific institutions, whose mission is the good of humanity. Nevertheless, doing research does not make those companies less of a business. In fact, their medicines are paid for by the internationalcharitable organizations and generate profits, and what they do is just to make their drugs more effective or less costly and thereby to help a larger population of patients. 

In addition, since society creates and offers the opportunity, the market, for those businesses to make profits, society, regardless of the borders, is worth the return from those companies. 接下来，从题目主体的特殊性或特点切入的理由（应题性得分点的关键在于此）：More importantly, the boundary may be obscure, when it comes to selling drugs as a lucrative business and curing diseases as a noble profession. Since pharmaceutical companies are in the tricky business, they have to juggle with the two things, and the part of noble profession requires them to do the research and development.

In light of the above, for drug companies, there is no contradiction or fine line between pursuing profits and developing medicine to help the poor. As a result, it is fair to expect the generosity in their expense of money on pharmaceutical research.
